‘Are you sure he’s someone you can trust? We know nothing at all about him. Who is he, really?’
Susanne and her two best friends have been dreaming of a holiday. All of them need an escape. Especially Susanne, who is reeling from the news that her ex is getting remarried. They need the warm Tuscan sun, delicious Italian food and wine, and – most of all – the time to unwind with each other. What they get is Harry.
Handsome, charming and great company, Harry soon sweeps Susanne off her feet for a holiday fling. And why not? Except that everything he’s told them is a lie.
Who is the man they’ve let into their house – who Susanne has let into her bed? They have no idea what Harry is capable of – what he’s done to get this far, and what he’s prepared to do to ensure he gets his way.
By the time they find out, it will be too late to stop their dream holiday becoming a nightmare.
An utterly addictive, page-turning thriller with a jaw-dropping twist. If you loved The Girlfriend, The Holiday and Something in the Water, you’ll be completely gripped by The Perfect Liar.
The Perfect Liar by Beverley Harvey is a suspenseful thriller that makes you connect with the characters before the suspense starts.
Susanne misses her son who is visiting his dad in Scotland for the summer.
Dale is avoiding a woman she doesn’t want to date anymore but keeps texting her.
Evie is mourning the loss of her mother with no job and no plans for the future.
They decide to take a month long trip to Tuscany. They are staying with Susanne’s neighbor’s godson, Harry. Harry is young, attractive and charming. One of the women starts sleeping with Harry. This causes tension between all three women. Harry seems off to one of the women. What is Harry hiding? Will Harry tear apart these three women’s friendships?
I really enjoyed The Perfect Liar. First off I loved the setting. I was lucky enough to visit Italy a few years ago, so this book brought back great memories of that trip. The women take a mini trip to Florence and visited many places I visited.
The women’s friendships really added to The Perfect Liar. Susanne and Dale have been friends since childhood. Dale is very protective of Susanne and always looking out for her. Susanne and Evie met at the gym a few months ago and quickly became close. Dale and Evie just met and quickly develop a friendship.
The way this story was told was very unique, and I thought added to the story. Chapters rotated between the main character’s points of view. Sometimes something would be revealed, and the next chapter would go slightly back and explain leading up to that event through the perspective of another character.
The Perfect Liar is an excellent thriller. It starts out with an in depth introduction of the main characters. By the time Harry started seeming suspicious, I was so invested in the three women and felt like they were friends. This really made everything that happened feel personal. There were some parts that were easily predictable, but that didn’t make me like the story less. When I thought everything was revealed, there was still so much more to happen. The ending of The Perfect Liar was perfect.
I recommend The Perfect Liar to thriller fans.
